We’re opening the garden gate wide for the May Day weekend! Open Garden is a day when everyone is warmly invited to enjoy the garden in their own way and time.
This time we’re also holding a family storytelling and a bring-and-share picnic at 12 noon.
Come discover the magic of 10 Trees - a mix of wild corners, tended beauty, wide open skies and heady vistas. Explore the winding paths of the orchard, our productive kitchen garden, the mossy meadows and stands of trees. Whether you’re a keen gardener, a local, or you’re just curious about the garden, come and spend time getting closer to nature.
You’re welcome to bring picnics and entertainment - from garden games to your latest project - and stay as long as you like whilst the garden is open. Bring your neighbours, friends and family too. The garden is a great playground for children! We just ask that you respect each other, and the space - more details on what this looks like below.

To help everyone enjoy the garden safely and respectfully, please follow these simple rules:
Please be respectful of everyone and of the garden space.
This is a self-guided event, which you take part in at your own risk.
Children must be supervised at all times.
Please help us care for our neighbours by being respectful regarding noise.
No smoking, drugs or alcohol.
No fires or flames of any kind.
Take all your litter home with you.
Leave no trace - please be mindful of the ecosystem, and try to leave as much as possible undisturbed.
Dogs are welcome on a lead, please pick up after them - and please don’t bring them into the kitchen garden.
Please take extra care around the garden’s uneven surfaces.

Our kitchen garden was built in spring last year and by the summer was supplying Open House in Hathersage with local, regeneratively grown veg. We share the harvest with our kitchen garden growers who tend the space on Wednesdays - do nibble on the odd leaf, and please leave the rest intact.
Our orchard has many nooks and crannies packed with wild food, and it’s a great place to practice foraging. Please do graze lightly if you are moved to, taking care of yourself and others - and please leave the majority of anything you find unpicked. You can also explore our emergent forest garden here.
Our community tree nursery is currently home to a small population of special oak trees, growing from acorns collected on the slopes surrounding Ladybower. This was built with the National Trust in late 2025, and we’d love people to get involved. Find out what tree-themed events we’ll be running this year, and how the new Commons for Trees for the Hope Valley and High Peak supports people who care for trees across the area.
Our community beds have just been completed - these three large growing spaces are ready to plant up - if you know any local groups who would be interested in getting involved in a growing project in the garden, please tell them to come down, or get in touch.
